Sumitomo Electric Launches Advanced Coherent Solutions

Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., a leading global provider of advanced optical solutions, today announced its next generation of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) devices which are optimized for use in coherent applications at OFC 2014. This exhibition is taking place from March 11 to 13 at the Mascone Convention Center, San Francisco, CA, USA.

Sumitomo Electric's Micro-ITLA integrates its proprietary laser technology in a miniaturized package that offers all the benefits of the industry standard ITLA in a form-factor that is three times smaller. The Micro-ITLA offers narrower spectral line width and 20% less power consumption.

In addition, Sumitomo Electric will showcase its Small Intradyne Coherent Receiver (ICR) for 100G DP-QPSK or 200G DP-16QAM transmission systems. The small form factor (15 x 26 x 5.5 mm package) coherent receiver with an InP-based monolithically integrated 90 degree hybrid mixer makes use of Sumitomo Electric's portfolio of high speed technologies

Sumitomo Electric will also feature its InP Mach-Zehnder-Modulator (MZM) delivering the benefits of coherent technology to next generation metro and long haul markets. The InP MZM delivers high density and low power dissipation that customers need in order to drive coherent technology into next generation applications. Sumitomo Electric will be presenting new developments at OFC2014.On Tuesday, March 11, 2014, 17:45-18:00 (Tu3H.5), Taizo Tatsumi, "A Compact Low-Power 224-Gb/s DP-16QAM Modulator Module with InP-based Modulator and Linear Driver ICs" in the session "InP-based Optoelectronic Devices."
